2019 is right around the corner, is your wardrobe ready? It’s never too late to switch up your style and fall in love with new pieces. Get ready for a new year and a better you by learning how to prep your closet for the new year.
If you haven’t had the chance to organize your closet in awhile, now is the time. Clear off your bed or a large work space and start dumping your clothes into a giant pile. Sort pieces into a keep and donate/discard pile. Once that’s completed, figure out how you want to organize things. Do you prefer to keep outfits together or are you more of the kind of person that likes to group things into types, like pants, shirts, jackets, etc? Find an organization style that fits bet with you and how you live your life.
You, like most woman, probably have everyday staples that you can use to quickly throw an outfit together. These are usually the pieces you end up wearing the most, so they tend to get a lot of wear and tear throughout the year. Use your time during the new year to upgrade and update your basic essentials by replacing your staples with similar items that you can wear throughout 2019.
While it’s winter and you likely have a few jackets, scarves, gloves, and hats that you’ve wearing frequently, you may find your closet cluttered with items that are out-of-date or haven’t been worn in years. Go through you winter/spring/summer/fall seasonal staples and ask yourself when the last time you wore that thing was. Haven’t worn that derby hat since college when you and your girls threw a party 3 years ago? Maybe it’s time to give it away or think about re-purposing it.
While you want to sort through what you already have and should aim to get rid of things and to downsize, now is also the time to think about what sort of look you want to project. Sometimes this is a step to consider as you progress through the new year. If you find pieces of clothing or jewelry that really catch your eye or pop in just the right way, don’t be afraid to pick up those statement pieces to add to your clothing collection. Sure you may only wear them a few times, but if they give you enjoyment and make you look great, they’re worth it (because you’re worth it).
Don’t forget to treat yourself in the new year. You deserve to look and feel good, however you decide to dress. Take the time this year to invest in building a more functional wardrobe - something that reflects your personality and style. Happy New Year!
